All Saints Catholic Church celebrates 100th anniversary

All Saints Church today

All Saints Catholic Church in the Heights is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. In 1908, four lots were purchased by the Catholic church in Houston for construction of a white church at 10th Street and Harvard. The church was completed on August 16, 1909, with the parish family totaling 650. The first church building was torn down and the present day Gothic-style church was built in 1928.

In 1913, All Saints School was opened and a two-room school completed in 1914. A larger, two-story brick school building was completed in 1922. All Saints School is no longer in operation, but the church today continues to be activily involved in the community. All Saints Church has been an integral part of Heights history over the decades, providing spiritual, educational and social services to the area.
