Havin' a bad day?
Did somebody think your hair was a hat?
Do people regift you?
Do your parents call you "the second one"?
Are you feelin' unpoopular? Well are you?
Having a bad day is what we can all have occasionally.
One of the best ways to lift your spirits (short of taking a Hawaiian
vacation) is to Paint a Room! There is something very special about
painting. Taking that shabby lookin' bedroom or kitchen and completely
changing the color can go a long way in changing your attitude.
But along the way you may have questions. Here are some more answers:
6) Why do some stains keep returning?
Some stains will keep returning after you paint over them several
times. These are tars and possibly grease or some other insidious
ingredient which probably formed from a previous water leak. The solution
is to use a spray or paint-on product called a stain- blocker (Kilz is a
good one).
7) Trim paint separates or coagulates funny while I'm painting
Sand the surface and clean thoroughly. You probably have grease or some
kind of oil on the surface. If you don't sand and clean properly your new
trim paint may not adhere properly.
8) There's gunky grease all over the walls and trim in my kitchen ...
Most professionals will use TSP (tri-sodium-phosphate). It's a cleaning
solution that cuts the muck so you can paint. Washing walls can be very
difficult and messy. I've found you can just prime paint over the mess...I
think it's easier. You could do the same over cigarette tar stains.
9) The old paint is coming off my doors in sheets
This is very frustrating. The previous painter did not correctly
prepare the surface before painting by sanding or cleaning thoroughly.
I've found the easiest way to fix this is to scrape off as much of the
loose paint as possible with a steel putty knife, and then hand sand
moderately and paint primer completely over the entire area.
Painting a room can be very uplifting.
Frankly any one who sees a psychiatrist should have his head examined!
